What Is Holistic Dentistry?

Your mouth is part of your whole body.

Holistic dentistry, also called biologic dentistry, looks at how your teeth and gums connect to the rest of your health. The materials we place, the way we remove old work and how we help you heal all matter beyond your smile.
For you, that means more conversation and fewer surprises. We explain what is in every material, offer the most conservative option first and team up with other health-focused professionals when your care calls for it.

Safe, biocompatible materials

Tooth-colored, metal-free fillings and crowns your body tolerates well.

Mercury-safe removal

Old silver fillings come out using the IAOMT's SMART protocol.

Conservative care

We save as much natural tooth as we can, every time.

Natural healing support

Medical-grade ozone helps clean and calm treated areas.

Safe Mercury Removal

SMART certified silver filling removal.

Silver fillings, also called amalgam fillings, are about half mercury. Drilling them out releases mercury vapor and fine particles, so how they come out matters as much as what replaces them.
Dr. Owens is certified in the Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique (SMART) through the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT). It is a strict protocol built to protect you, our team and the environment.

What SMART removal includes

Ozone Therapy

Ozone dentistry that supports natural healing.

Ozone is an active form of oxygen. In small, controlled amounts, it helps clear bacteria from teeth and gums and supports your body as it heals.
Dr. Owens is certified in oxygen and ozone therapy and uses medical-grade ozone as part of his biologic protocol. It is gentle, it works alongside the treatment you are already having, and most patients barely notice it.

Where we use ozone treatment for teeth

Biocompatible Materials

Metal-free, biocompatible fillings and crowns.

Biocompatible materials are ones your body tolerates well. We use tooth-colored composite and porcelain or ceramic restorations instead of metal, so your work looks natural and contains no mercury.
If you have sensitivities or a history of reactions, tell us. We will walk you through what we plan to use and why before anything is placed.

Remineralization

Help early weak spots heal without a drill.

Not every soft spot needs a filling. When we catch early weak areas in your enamel, we can often help them harden again by putting minerals back into the tooth.
Your plan may include in-office treatments, simple changes to your home care and food choices that support a healthy mouth. If you prefer fluoride-free dentistry, just ask. We are happy to talk through options like hydroxyapatite toothpaste.

They mean nearly the same thing. Both look at how your oral health connects to your overall health. Biologic dentistry puts extra focus on the safety of the materials and methods we use.

Not always. If a filling is cracked, leaking or failing, replacing it makes sense. If it is still sound, we will talk through the pros and cons with you. If you choose removal, we follow the SMART protocol.

Yes, when it is used by a trained dentist with the right equipment. Dr. Owens is certified in oxygen and ozone therapy and uses medical-grade ozone in small, controlled amounts.

Modern composite and porcelain restorations are strong and long-lasting. They bond directly to your tooth, which often means we can keep more of your natural tooth.

Early weak spots in enamel can often harden again with the right minerals, home care and diet. Once a cavity has formed, it usually needs a filling, so regular checkups help us catch things early.
